Faces in the Crowd — Lowers

23 04 2015

The Oakley Pro is coming to town.  You can see them setting up the scaffolding at Lowers on the Surfline live feed [yes, it’s now live, but that is a different conversation].  The buzz has started.

The Oakley folks put together a nice piece on local Lowers faces.  Here’s the link.  Maybe next time they’ll stop by Uppers and snap some shots of The Crowd.  In the meantime, here are a couple.

Seriously, we look forward to some great surfing at Lowers.  And, Oakley is an excellent sponsor for the event.  Stop by the show next week.

Ruben Piña — Our Upper Trestles Photographer

15 04 2015

When Ruben shows up for Dawn Patrol, the surfing skills just get that much better.  Everybody tightens up a bit.

Our Friend Ruben

Our Friend Ruben

That’s because Ruben Piña is a professional photographer who is a master at his art/trade.  He has relatives in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico who are experts in some of the cleanest and meanest waves on the planet.  And, it is not uncommon for Ruben to be right in the middle of it when it is going off.  Just Google “Ruben Piña Puerto Escondido.”

Needless to say, it is a privilege to have Ruben shooting us local town folks having fun in the Trestles rollers.

After a good swell, like the one at the end of March 2015, Facebook lights up with photos from Ruben.

Doing His Art

Plying His Art

If you see Ruben on the beach with his mega lens pointed at the water, stop by to chat.  There is a good chance he has a shot of you too.  And, he is such a friendly, caring person, he’ll be more than happy to let you know.  Get his contact info for later file sharing.

Remember, he is a professional, so make sure you make it worth his time ($$).

While we are on the topic, we have other great photographers on the beach as well.  One of our own homegrown experts is Rob Fogelman.  Check out his work on Syck Shots on Facebook.  Rob hasn’t asked for donations yet, but probably could.  Thanks Rob.

So, if you are looking for a face in the Crowd, or you are a face in the Crowd, keep an eye on the beach for our favorite photographers.
